Skin of Steel Show of Force at Long Grove Heritage 5K Run/3K Walk

IMAGES-2013-09-IMG_1059Saturday, September 7 dawned bright and warm as nine local charities set up their registration tables at Kildeer Countryside School in preparation for the Long Grove Heritage Run/Walk. At 6:30 am, runners and walkers began streaming in to pick up their numbers and registration materials.

This was Skin of Steel’s first year participating in the annual race sponsored by the Rotary Club of Long Grove/Kildeer/Hawthorne Woods. Team Skin of Steel came out in force with over 220 walkers and runners. They honored loved ones fighting melanoma. Our team also focused attention on advancing research to find a cure. Fifty-six young women from the Glenbrook South High School Tennis Team wore special t-shirts highlighting the fact that this disease is the second most common form of cancer for young people aged 15-29.

Apart from a brief drenching downpour just after the race began, the day was beautiful and the scenery along the route picturesque. Our thanks go to the Rotary Club of Long Grove/Kildeer/Hawthorne Woods for putting on a wonderful event benefitting so many charities.
