Skin of Steel Awarded Mayo Social Media Scholarship
Skin of Steel, a Glenview-based patient advocacy organization focused on melanoma research and awareness has been awarded one of three full scholarships to attend Mayo’s Health Care Social Media Week. Skin of Steel was selected among a national applicant pool. The Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media and Ragan Communications are holding the fourth annual Social Media Week, Oct. 16-18, 2012, in Rochester, Minnesota. They intend to surpass the 2011 attendee list that included healthcare representation from 38 states and four countries.
The social media week of learning and opportunities includes the Social Media Residency – an intensive immersion in social media strategy and execution – and the Social Media Health Network member meeting.
Skin of Steel is acutely aware that surviving melanoma, the fastest growing cancer, is directly proportional to proximity of care. Skin of Steel’s mission is to lengthen patient lives by developing Chicago into a center of excellence for comprehensive melanoma treatment and research. Their intent is to establish a new local model for Chicago with research resources for global benefit.
